A Different Design Ethic
AFRICAN DESIGNER COLLECTION | INTERIOR DESIGN CONSULTING
Laurie's signature bench, hand painted by artist Lionel Smit.
"Lionel’s new body of work is an exploration of process, combining various techniques, which he experiments with in his studio. Challenging his ongoing fascination with the portrait, figure and identity."
The bench is created from electro galvanized and bent 5mm mild steel, assembled with polished stainless steel fittings. and finished with durable automotive lacquer.
Inspired by the ‘anchoring presence’ of trees combined with the designer’s distinctive rounded sculptural style the Soma planters create a powerful impact on any landscape or interior. The Soma design celebrates the stone-like appearance of reinforced concrete and in various progressions of the design contrasts with organic elements in wood and cork.
A representation of Wiid's passion and ingenuity for exploring materials and techniques of manipulation.
Using techniques he developed whilst working with artist Wim Botha, he expertly combines steel and timber elements and applies avant garde finishing processes accentuating each material.
